How to Play Golf

Golf is an outdoor sport that is complex to learn and takes a lot of practice to perfect. Golf is considered a lifetime sport, typically first introduced to children through putt-putt golf and enjoyed by children and adults of all ages. Golf is also an enjoyable sport to watch on television.
First: Select clubs
Select no more than 14 clubs to carry. Start with used clubs. They are less expensive to purchase when you are trying to develop basic skills and discover which clubs best suit your style. You need a driver, a putter and a sand wedge to start. Other clubs which you may want to consider include a 6-iron, 8-iron, pitching wedge and a hybrid.
Second: Get started on the right foot
Take lessons and start on the driving range where you can see exactly how the ball travels. Taking lessons is the best way to learn a basic technique and rules of the game. When you feel ready to work on the real golf course, work on your short game before progressing to longer range shots.
Third: Chip and pitch
Chipping and pitching are the two most commonly used swings in golf. Learn the chip and pitch well, and learn to recognize when to use each swing. Pitch when there is an obstacle in the way and chip when you do not need to carry the ball. After mastering pitch and chip you are ready to move into the open golf course and play where there are obstacles and changes in terrain.
